Skills Competition Wales portfolio update

Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales has announced the launch of two new competitions to the 2025 Skills Competition Wales portfolio.

The two new competitions, Additive Manufacturing and Renewable Energy, align to priority skills in Wales with a focus on the net zero skills demands for the future workforce. With the ever changing skills needed for industry, the new competitions showcase how education, industry and traineeships are supporting a stronger, fairer and greener Wales.

Drawing on expertise from across Wales, Skills Competition Wales will see a portfolio of 58 competitions being delivered in 2025.

Designed and developed by educators and industry professionals, the competitions span across four sectors, Construction and Infrastructure; Digital, Business and Creative; Engineering and Technology and; Health, Hospitality and Lifestyle.

Steering Groups will be hosted in June, an opportunity for staff across the sector to get involved in shaping this years competitions.

Competition Lead for Hairdressing, Vicky Williams, from Merthyr College said;

‘Being a part of Skills Competition Wales is a privilege, and to have the opportunity to lead and shape the competition in partnership with the network is exciting. It provides a platform for Merthyr College to showcase skills and also allow us the opportunity to develop and promote the vocation more widely across Wales.’

Dates and times for the virtual Steering group meetings will be announced in May and shared across our social media channels and on our website.

Paul Evans, Project Director at the Inspiring Skills Wales project said: “The aim of the project and Skills Competition Wales is to celebrate learners’ skills and achievements. We are thrilled to be working with a vast amount of experts across Wales who will drive forward the skills agenda. Being able to draw on passionate and committed individuals from all paths of Wales adds strength to  the education and training sector in Wales.”
