Delivered through the Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales project, the scale of this initiative is substantial. Across the most recent cycle, participating venues hosted 65 distinct Pan-Wales competitions, welcoming 1,168 competitors. Delivering events on this scale requires host institutions to provide world-class facilities, specialised industry-grade equipment, and dedicated technical expertise.
Crucially, this local engagement builds a direct pathway to elite success on the world stage. The proof of this pipeline is undeniable: Welsh colleges Cardiff and Vale College and Pembrokeshire College secured the joint top spot on the medal table at last year's WorldSkills UK National Finals, and six Welsh competitors are heading to China next month to take part in WorldSkills Shanghai. Hosting Skills Competition Wales does not just stretch and push regional talent; it provides the exact launching pad required for Welsh learners to excel nationally and internationally.

They are designed in a way that is achievable, but nonetheless stretches and challenges their skills and resilience under pressure. For tutors, it is an opportunity to test learners' ability to put their skills to the test, but also to gain insights into developing and improving one's own practice through post-competition feedback on going above and beyond in their particular industry. These competitions offer an opportunity to shine for vocational students, an opportunity outside of written exams and coursework where they can achieve and get the recognition they deserve for pushing themselves out of their comfort zone."
