CWiC Skills Workshops + Retrofit Competition Overview

Date: 15th December 2025
Time: 10-2

This CPD session brings together two expert-led workshops delivered by the Construction Wales Innovation Centre (CWiC), followed by an introductory session on our new Retrofit Competition. The event is designed to support educators and practitioners across construction and the built environment by providing up-to-date insight into building performance, digital tools, and retrofit skills.

In the morning, attendees will take part in two abridged CWiC sessions. The first will explore Building Envelope Design, offering practical guidance on the principles that influence thermal performance, material selection, airtightness, and whole-building efficiency. The second session will introduce Innovative Digital Tools in the Built Environment, highlighting current and emerging technologies used to support surveying, modelling, visualisation, and digital workflows. Both sessions draw on industry-informed practice and will help educators strengthen curriculum delivery in low-carbon and modern construction methods.

After lunch, the afternoon session will focus on our new Retrofit Competition. Attendees will receive an overview of the challenge, competition brief, judging criteria, and opportunities for learner engagement. This workshop will provide space for questions, early idea development, and guidance on how best to support students entering the competition.

This CPD session is suitable for educators across Further Education, Work-Based Learning, and related training environments who want to deepen their knowledge of sustainable construction, digital innovation, and retrofit practice.

Lunch will be provided for all attendees. Subsistence support is available for those travelling over 2.5 hours; details will be provided following registration.

Please note: the event may be cancelled if minimum numbers are not met, and registered attendees will be notified in advance.
