The sustainable agriculture competition will aim to engage learners who are studying a Level 2 or Level 3, agricultural or land based course. The theme of the competition will be based around one of the below scenarios (subject to adaptation/change) and is likely to be project/presentation based, with the possibility of a small practical element.
1. Sustainable Family Farm Challenge
Theme: Farm Diversification & Environmental Sustainability
Overview: Teams are given a scenario of a traditional Welsh family farm facing economic and environmental pressures. Their challenge is to develop a sustainable farm diversification plan that ensures profitability while improving environmental impact and biodiversity.
2. The Circular Farming Challenge
Theme: Zero-Waste & Regenerative Agriculture
Overview: Teams design a closed-loop farming system that minimizes waste, regenerates soil health, and improves sustainability in crop and livestock production.
3. Sustainable Food Production in a Changing Climate
Theme: Balancing Food Security with Conservation & Carbon Reduction
Overview: Teams develop a sustainable food production model that ensures efficient crop and livestock production while protecting biodiversity and reducing the farm’s carbon footprint. This scenario encourages collaboration between agriculture, horticulture, and conservation learners.
