Carpenters use their skills to cut, fit and assemble wood structures and fittings such as roofs, windows and doors.
In this competition, competitors have to complete a specific project designed to challenge their ability to follow detailed instructions, produce accurate and neat work outputs, and be economical with materials while working to strict timescales – all essential requirements for today’s construction industry. The competitor will be marked on Health and Safety.
On this page you will be able to download further details on this years competition activity. These can be found in the competition brief.
Due to the Covid-19 situation, Skills Competitions for Construction/Building Services will take on a new format for this academic year. The proposals are as follows:
• Skills competitions to take place at the organisations own premises during a two-week window in January / February 2021. The idea is that competitors will attend their place of study on their normal day and will participate in a skills competition as opposed to their timetabled sessions.
• Each participating organisation will receive an allocation of funding to support the purchase of materials.
• Tutors will be asked to judge their competitors and rank in order. (Skills competition judges have agreed to provide CPD training to tutors prior to the competitions)
• Organisations will be asked to email their mark sheets for the top 3 competitors along with photographic evidence/short video of the completion task to a designated address at NPTC Group.
