Textiles & Surface Pattern Skills Competition

Textile Designer is a broad term covering a large variety of job roles connected to many associated industries and ways of working. Most notably this includes the fashion and interiors industries, with their evident need for pattern and print designers who design cloth and wallpaper, and for constructed textiles designers who weave, stitch, or knit fabrics. Surface Pattern Design is synonymous with textiles and opens doors to enhance many other everyday surfaces through pattern and texture, for example stationery and giftware design, interior surfaces such as ceramic tiles, wood and glass, plus lesser known avenues such as CMF(Colour Material and Finish) for industries that you would not immediately expect such as Automotive and Transport.

It is no exaggeration to say that Textiles and Surface Pattern are everywhere, and a Textile Designer’s role is a vitally important one. We use textiles and pattern for protection, for warmth, for self-expression, for decorative purposes, for performance related functions and for the pure joy of engaging in design.

This competition focuses on exploring the language of pattern and screen-printed processes through a square scarf design challenge.
