3D printers are changing the way we manufacture objects, from tools and toys, to food and even artificial organs. Items can be produced from a range of materials including plastics, metals, composites, cement and even chocolate! This is creating jobs spanning sectors ranging from product design to construction, medicine to special effects for TV and movies. The 3D printer and scanning kit creates an object in real time, so participants can watch as it develops. Completed examples will also be on display. In addition to the 3D printer, pupils can use 3Doodler pens to make their own 3D objects. Pupils can also use the hand-held scanner to scan each other and produce a 3D image, which can be observed and manipulated on a laptop screen.
